The Game Plan
-
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 baking pan.
-
Make the streusel first — you'll thank yourself later. Mix brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut in cold butter with a fork or your fingers until it looks like coarse, sandy crumbles. Set aside.
-
Cream softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
-
Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla and sour cream. Mix until smooth.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet just until combined. The batter will be thick — that's correct.
-
Spread half the batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle half the streusel over it in an even layer.
-
Carefully spread the remaining batter on top (an offset spatula helps here). Top with the rest of the streusel.
-
Bake 40-45 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean and the streusel is golden.
-
While still warm, whisk together powdered sugar and milk. Drizzle the glaze over the top in lazy lines.
