Costco New Zealand opened its first (and so far only) warehouse in Westgate, Auckland, in 2022 — and the opening day traffic was so catastrophic it made national headlines. Cars backed up onto the motorway, the parking lot hit capacity before noon.
Kiwis had been watching Australians enjoy Costco for years, and when it was finally their turn, they did not hold back. The food court shares most of its DNA with Australia's, but there are a few Kiwi touches worth noting.
